Live from North Iceland - Near Húsavík & Akureyri
October was an interesting month. Some amazing auroral displays in the first few weeks, albeit hampered by a relatively high and bright moon.
Towards the end of the month saw dramatic changes in the weather. Temperatures dropped from +16°C to -12°C, 40 cm of snow fell during one weekend and then thawed as quickly as it came.
This unusually high humidity is still causing condensation and icing issues — even one of the IP68 Sony Starlite cameras developed cataracts. To be fair, that's a Chinese IP rating, not a real-world one.
I didn't want to have to bother with dew heaters as usually the temperature drops below freezing and stays there throughout the winter. However, it looks like I'll have to fit something.
The initial forecast for weather in November looks unimpressive with more cloudy and wet conditions, and another high moon. However, the nights are rapidly increasing, giving many more opportunities.
easyJet flights resumed again, flying directly to Akureyri from London and Manchester. If you're up here on vacation drop me a line if you need any advice, or you're welcome over at Litlihraun for a coffee and cake. (Bring cake 😄)

This 24-hour video is from a separate south-facing camera at Litlihraun. It shows the last full day of weather, light, and any aurora visible low on the southern horizon.
